POA E-Notarisation in the UAE — Complete Guide

What Is E-Notarisation?

E-notarisation is the UAE government’s digital notarisation process. It allows powers of attorney and other legal documents to be notarised remotely via a video conference with a licensed UAE notary public. The process carries the same legal weight as in-person notarisation and is accepted by all UAE authorities.

This system has transformed the POA process for people based outside the UAE. Previously, getting a POA notarised required visiting a UAE embassy or consulate, or travelling to the UAE in person. E-notarisation removes that requirement entirely.

How It Works

Appointment scheduled. The POA service provider arranges a video call slot with a UAE notary public on your behalf.
Video call initiated. You join the call from your location. The notary verifies your identity using your passport and Emirates ID.
Identity verified. The notary confirms your identity and reviews the POA document with you, ensuring you understand the scope of authority being granted.
OTP received. A one-time password is sent to your registered UAE mobile number. You provide this to the notary as confirmation of your intent.
Document signed digitally. The notary finalises the document, applies the digital notarisation stamp, and the POA is issued electronically.

What You Need

To complete e-notarisation, you need: a valid passport, Emirates ID (if you are a UAE resident), a device with a working camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and an active UAE phone number to receive the OTP verification code.

If you do not have an active UAE phone number, alternative verification methods may be available depending on the notary and the issuing authority. Your POA service provider can advise on the options.

E-Notarisation vs In-Person

For most POA types, e-notarisation is accepted and recommended — particularly for clients based abroad. However, there are some situations where in-person notarisation may still be required, such as certain court-related POAs or documents that require physical attestation.

Your POA service provider will confirm which route applies to your situation before any work begins.
