Getting a power of attorney in Dubai follows a structured process. The steps below describe the typical workflow. Individual cases may vary depending on the POA type, the parties involved, and the requirements of the receiving authority.
Step 1: Enquiry and Type Confirmation
You describe your situation and what you need the POA to cover. The service provider confirms the correct POA type. This step matters because using the wrong type is the single most common reason for rejection.
Step 2: Document Collection
Once the type is confirmed, the required documents are collected. At minimum: passports and Emirates ID for both principal and attorney. Depending on the POA type, additional documents may be needed — title deeds for property, trade licences for company, or bank-specific requirements.
Step 3: Drafting and Review
The POA is drafted based on the confirmed type and scope. The draft is sent to you for review before notarisation. This is the opportunity to confirm scope, parties, and details. Changes after notarisation require a new document.
Step 4: Notarisation
Once the draft is approved, notarisation is arranged. For most cases, this is done via the UAE’s e-notarisation system — identity verified via video call and OTP. In-person notarisation may be required for certain cases.
Step 5: Delivery
The notarised POA is delivered digitally. It is valid for use with the relevant authority. Physical copies are only required if attending in person.
After Delivery
The appointed attorney can act within the scope of the authority granted. The POA remains valid until the task is completed, the validity period expires, or the principal revokes it.
